Middle Tennessee summers are hot and humid, and winter mornings can be bitter, so a climate system that is not doing its job gets old fast. Our family-owned shop provides A/C and heating repair in Hermitage, TN for drivers who come to us from Nashville and nearby communities.
We work on air conditioning and heating systems in domestic, Asian, European and hybrid vehicles, including hybrids that use electrically driven compressors. We test the system to find out why it is not performing and explain the repair before any work begins.
Signs your A/C or heater needs attention
- Warm or barely cool air. Often a refrigerant leak, but compressor, condenser and electrical faults cause it too.
- Cooling that comes and goes. A cycling compressor clutch, a failing relay or a freezing evaporator can make output inconsistent.
- Weak airflow. A clogged cabin air filter or a tired blower motor reduces how much air reaches you.
- Musty or sour odor. Moisture on the evaporator can grow mold, particularly in humid weather.
- No heat or lukewarm heat. Low coolant, a stuck thermostat or a clogged heater core are common culprits.
- Foggy windshield or wet floor. A leaking heater core or plugged A/C drain can leave moisture inside the cabin.
- Clicking behind the dash. A failing blend door actuator can click as it struggles to move.
What our A/C and heating service can include
- Air conditioner inspection and performance test, including vent temperature and system pressures
- Refrigerant leak detection
- Air conditioner charge with the refrigerant type your vehicle specifies
- Compressor, condenser, hose and switch diagnosis and repair
- Cabin air filter replacement
- Heating system check and maintenance

Getting your climate control back
- Request an appointment. Book online or call 615-600-5994 and tell us whether the problem is cooling, heating, airflow or odor.
- Diagnosis and estimate. We test temperatures, pressures and controls and check for leaks, then explain the findings and give you an estimate before any repair.
- Repair and recharge. With your go-ahead, we fix the fault, evacuate and recharge the system if needed, and verify vent temperatures.
- Pick-up. We review what was repaired and share tips for keeping the system healthy. Payment through Affirm is available, subject to approval by Affirm.
How your car’s A/C and heat really work
Your air conditioner does not create cold; it moves heat. A compressor pressurizes refrigerant, the condenser in front of the radiator releases heat to the outside air, and the evaporator behind the dash absorbs heat from the cabin. The refrigerant also carries the oil that lubricates the compressor, which is why running a system low on refrigerant can shorten compressor life.
Older vehicles generally use R-134a refrigerant, while many newer models use R-1234yf. The two are not interchangeable, and each requires its own equipment, so the correct type for your vehicle matters.
The heater is simpler. Hot coolant from the engine flows through a small radiator called the heater core, and a blend door mixes heated and cooled air to reach the temperature you select. Because it shares coolant with the engine, a heating problem is sometimes really a cooling system problem.
Two easy habits help: replace the cabin air filter on the schedule in your owner’s manual, and run the A/C for a short stretch periodically even in cooler months so seals stay lubricated. Running the defroster also engages the compressor on many cars.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my car A/C blowing warm air?
The most common cause is low refrigerant from a leak, but a failed compressor clutch, a bad pressure switch, a blocked condenser, an electrical fault or a stuck blend door can all produce warm air. Testing pressures and checking for leaks shows which one it is.
Does my car A/C just need a recharge?
An A/C system is sealed, so if it is low on refrigerant, it has a leak somewhere. A recharge alone may cool for a while, but finding and repairing the leak first is the way to keep it working and avoid running the compressor low on oil.
Why does my car A/C smell musty when I turn it on?
Moisture collects on the evaporator behind the dash, and mold or bacteria can grow there, especially in humid weather. A clogged cabin air filter or a blocked evaporator drain can make it worse. Replacing the filter and cleaning the evaporator usually helps.
Why is no heat coming from my vents?
Your heater uses hot engine coolant flowing through the heater core. Low coolant, a thermostat stuck open, a clogged heater core, a failed blend door actuator or a blower motor problem can all leave you without heat.
Why do my windows fog up with a sweet smell when the heat is on?
An oily film on the inside of the windshield combined with a sweet smell is a classic sign of a leaking heater core sending coolant vapor into the cabin. Coolant is toxic, so have it inspected promptly.
